Opposite from the town of Villamil Port in the south of Isabela Island, lies the group of small islets called Tintoreras. The main inhabitants of the rocky islets that are surrounded by mangroves are marine iguanas and sea lions.
A trail on one of the islets leads through aa lava flows and some sandy beach areas. Towards the end of the trail, there is a small channel with crystal-clear water where you can see whitetip and blacktip reef sharks. These reef sharks are called tintoreras in Spanish, hence the name of the islet.
